Putt More Base Review by Daniel Simpson
In today’s gaming world, flash games have really split into many genres, one that has been hidden for very long time is the 2D mini golf game. For some reason minigolf games are slowly creeping back into gaming sites.
Putt more base: peculiar name, but I really like the idea, it really refreshes the concept of the 2D putt golf games completely. Usually the designs of these will include courses where holes are made with geometric shapes, with loud, flamboyant and hideous block-fill colours are used. Usually physics aren’t too good to with shots just coming to a halt pretty sharply.
This does not occur in Putt More Base with a general consideration for level design and aesthetics, definitely one of the best games of it’s genre! It’s very relaxing and mellow offering players a more casual playthrough, rather than a frustrating one, the looks, sounds and music all add to this feeling.
What I liked
In every level there are numerous materials that, when the ball hits them react on the ball in different ways. Each material is clearly identifiable and has other properties too. It really takes minigolf games to another level in physics, playability and asthetics. There are also numerous puzzles within putt more base. In each level you have a selection of pieces which you must place in certain places facing certain directions to change the course of the ball. Combining the puzzle element gives you more in a play.
Art is well done, a consideration is done for the whole level rather than just the area where the ball moves around.
There is a description of every kind of material, shape and obstacle in the game. In the first few levels there are marks directing you on where to put the them. So that’s a big tick for the user friendliness.
What I didn’t like
It’s very hard to find some thing not to like in such a casual game but in some areas I would have preferred I t to be just a golf game, the puzzles making it hard to concentrate of the golf element.
To conclude putt more base is a fun, great looking golf game that is doing a good job at restoring it’s genre. Easy to pick up, relaxing rather that frustrating.
